What is the definition of a “clearing wave”? What do you clear with this first wave?

I believe it is to wipe (clear) any defense the target may have there…
sending so many cata waves at once, if u wipe his defense troops just before, all catas will do their job with no resistence…
I have a question, how efficient this strategy is against far distant targets? what is the farthest distance we can use it?

surely it would be better to open up all tabs type in the number of catas you want to send in wiht the amount of troops, but don’t click ok, then once you have filled in the numbers of troops you want to send then you go through all tabs clicking send very quickly?
