Testing out the gauls

with 11 comments

I’ve started a couple of servers with gauls now, as it is the tribe I have played the least, and figure it would be a good idea to get some more experience with them before writing the guide. The guide will be fairly close to the one I wrote about romans. The big difference is that phalaxes are real bad at farming, they are defence troops after all. The gauls makes up for it with their TTs though, they are awesome both at farming and at killing clubs, and they are less expensive to get than the EIs. More to come!

  2. i have always been interested in gauls and have wanted to see what they can do.
i started off travian playing as a roman and was in the winning alliance but i hardly helped in any wars. then i tried teuton because of wars but i always was hit when i slept but at least i was bright enough to send them away until i got back on. Now i checked the off and def of gaul and realized that they are the perfect tribe. the reason is you have 2 horses that specialize in certain def and then TTs that kickass in offense so gauls arent just def like i always thought but also offense.

i am currently playing as a gaul and it is the first day out of protection for everyone and i already have close to 30 phala i hope to have TTs soon i will keep checking in here and will tell you what i think of the tribe.

    P.S. sorry its so long.

  3. Thanks for the comment, you bring up lots of good points there with the horses for sure. That would be good stuff to discuss in a middle to end-game guide for gauls.

Right now I’m still working on the starting strategies. I’m experimenting on one sweedish speed server, where I got to TTs in 65 hours or so. After killing like 1000 or so teuton troops they all have built lots of spears which kinda sucks, but it’s still going very well. Still need to fix some things with it, as I should have the second city by now which I don’t.

Let me know how it goes for you though, and how you’re enjoying the gauls.

  5. on august 17th i will comment again and tell you how i am doing for the first month of the server. as of now though i have nearly 100 TTs and i was inactive for two days because of moving and a bad sitter. i am in the top 400 and in two days hopefully the top 200. next time it will be more detailed.

  8. i am just starting again on the speed server with gauls after begginning with the teutons. at first it was going well with them and i had around 30 raids within 2-3 days. problem was as soon as the protection ran out i was getting major attacks from stronger teuton players that i found it hard to deal with.
because of this im now a gaul and i was just checking here for useful advice/hints etc.
i am expereienced though (mainly in normal servers) as ive played for over a year with all 3 of the tribes in quite a number of servers.
as much as i want to be a teuton i just cant stick it as im not on here 24-7, but i am on daily for around 6 hours consecutively, meaning that i do all the damage within that period but take it all out of it.

    well anyway enough from me.

teuton = fun; have to be active
gaul = slower gameplay, until you get the TT’s
romans = balanced, get that level 20 wall !!

the wall is the start of a good roman village :)

  9. Very nice comparisons and sayings

I’d like to know how slower gauls are in growing compared to roman and teuton

as I’ve noted, romans are the slowest of them, and gauls are not very efficient in offensive (they have nice offensive units, but they are expensive to build, requiring higher resources production rates and more villages to do the same damage teutons do)

As I’ve read traps are not useful at all and still can make stronger teuton players flood u if u trap his troops.

    I really don’t know

  10. i have only played 1 normal server i played as a roman and i really didnt like the game. constatly getting attacked and it was the first time i played travian. i have played a larger number of 3x servers. mostly as tueton and gual. i love the gual as for the defence and the tueton for the offencive. but i had a tueton account and had over 5-6k troops in almost of my villages. i had 5 villages not including cats either. i was doing fine untill my alliance decided to kick me out and take my 9 and 15c’s away from me i ended up killing 5000 of the 7000 TT’s that attacked my main village. and that was just from one guy. he sent way more troops than just TT’s but after they killed my mains deffences i thought id be smart and move all of my defences there. i sent all of my def troops to my main village within there base and killed massive amounts of the alliance troops. they hated me for it but i just thought id say every type is an offencive and def tribe its how you decide to use them.

  11. Ok, I am playing gauls 6 server, never been a farm, always sucessfull.
What I want to say is you NEVER make troops in the beginning of the game as far as you are a gaule. With double crannies NOBODY can make any harm to you up to the time you have production levels 9. Ok, 8 as a minimum, excpept of crop fields.
When you have a high production, you will build up all the barracks, academies etc etc in 1-2 days. You will also build traps (if you are under often attacks) and phalanxes very, very fast. If nobody is attacking too much, you can build some 60 traps + make sverdman instead of phalanxes. Just now you are in the game.
You need troops in order to make yourself (to kill actually) some great teuton with pop 300-350 to have additional farm that will help you to build you second village. That is the only reason you start to make troops. And now as you have them – go forward farmig, farming, farming.
Ok, sorry for a long tale :) and good luck for everybody.
