Travian Teuton strategy guide

Powerful teuton strategy guide for active raiders. Most successful teutons start out similar to this.

Teuton is my favourite tribe and the one I have played most often. The reason I like teutons is that it’s a very aggressive tribe and it really favours the active player. Like I’ve mentioned before in the introduction guide, you should start out about 3 days after the server has started, so that you can start raiding quicker and so that you’re not put in the middle of everyone else.

Get the rewards
If you play on a server where there is a quest reward system I suggest following that untill you’re at the last part of it. That way is quicker than starting out farming right away cause of all the resources it gives you. It actually gives you close to 6000 resources total and farming can’t beat that, since you in either case would have to wait longer before you can start farming with the new rules, not getting the resources from homeland anymore. The last part of the reward system is where you’re supposed to extend all fields to level two, and I don’t think teutons should do that untill they find themself in desperate need of the NPC merchant. It costs a lot to extend everything to level two and it’s much better to put those resources into clubs. If you buy gold, don’t do it at all untill you’ve got your second village.

Throughout this guide I will state some goals you should try to reach before you move on instead of using like day 2, day 3 and so forth, as it depends a lot on the area you land in how fast you’re able to grow the first days.

clubman3 clubs
From your first three clubs are ready you should be raiding and building clubs non stop. Just farm all the villages around you that are low in population with 2-3 clubs each. When players have used the reward system to get a rat as defence you’ll need 3 clubs to kill it without losses, so send 3 in your first attack. As soon as you get the report you send another raid at them assuming you got max the previous raid, if not let them rest for some time, the bigger the population the shorter time you let them rest as bigger populations usually means more resource fields built, and thus a quicker production of resources. I think you should aim for about 50 clubs before you start worrying about other farming players out there. If anyone attacks you during this time don’t bother attacking them back, just make sure you have all your clubs out and that you’ve spent all your resources so they get nothing. Make sure however that you remember who attacked you and their army size.

When it comes to the barracks you should increase it’s level whenever you have a 2-3 hours building que in it. You’ll need a higher level barracks if you’re playing normal server, since building times are three times as long. Granary and warehouse should be upgraded as needed. Better to have them too large than too small.

50 clubs
Now it is time that you take a look around your 7×7 and figure out who else has an raiding army out there. Don’t mind the romans and gauls, just look at the teutons for now. Hopefully you’ll have the biggest army at this point, but you have to use it wisely. You have to destroy your competitors army by attacking them, don’t use your clubs to defend with even if you have enough to kill off the attacking force. Your raiding army is your bread and butter, you need it to raid and grow with, don’t waste them unless you can kill a competitors clubs with it in one attack. The best way to do this in my opinion is to counter attacks made on you. I’ve written more about that in my combat guide, but a short summary here.

When you see an incoming attack on you from another teauton, save up your clubs at home untill 39 seconds before they arrive. Then send your clubs out on an attack somewhere, and 20 seconds later you cancel your attack so they come back just 1 second after your enemy has attacked you. As soon as they arrive home you send them on an attack towards an enemy. If you do this efficiently you can manage to land your attack at your enemy just a couple of seconds after his army returns and maybe catch them all at home if you’re lucky. It is not as easy as attacking your enemy with faster troops, but when both armies have the same speed it’s the only way to do it.

100 clubs
At about 100 clubs I usually build up my academy and get about 5 scouts. With the scouts you can raid more efficiently and I’ll use the first one to find out whether the romans and gauls in my area with high population have troops or not. You can also use them to scout enemy teutons but beware that you most likely won’t see their whole army as it’s usually out raiding. You should also have at least one scout at home all the time so that you notice scout attempts, which you’ll increase as you get more scouts. I tend to build one more scout for every 10 clubs untill I have 200 clubs.

200 clubs
As you work your way towards 200 clubs I suggest starting the infrastructure for your first party if you play on a speed server. You only need one party on a speed server to get your second village, and if things work out well you should be able to have this party around day 3. I’d advice you to keep building clubs at the same time, but don’t increase your barracks level more in this period. After you get the party going start building your residence to level 10 and then settlers. Make sure you never have your settlers at home when you’re not there to watch them, it really hurts having one of them killed in an attack. On a speed server you should be able to have a second city on day four as long as you don’t face too much trouble with your neighbour teutons.

If you play on a normal speed server, don’t mind the party infrastructure untill you reach at least 200 clubs. If you start partying too early you’ll need 3 of them to get your second city, and you probably won’t have enough income to run those 3 right after each other. And there is no use in running one and then having to wait, as you could just as well have waited starting the first one. I usually build the level 10 mainbuilding first, as it’s cheap, then I put up the level 10 academy, then level 1 townhall and then level 10 residence. After I’ve done this I just let it stand there and gather culture points for me untill I have a large enough raid income to run the party and build the settlers without much deadtime in between. I usually have about 400 clubs at the time I build my second village on a normal server.

A few tips on where to put your second village. If you’re using gold and/or are playing on a normal server a 15 cropper is the way to go. A cropper will produce more total resources than any other city cause of the bonus buildings, and it will also be a better base for big armies, so if you use gold you should always chose a 15 cropper. If you’re playing on a normal server you should also always chose a 15 cropper as it’s too hard supporting a big army from a 6444 city with normal resource production. Troops eat as much on a normal server, but you production is only one third of speed. When you get your second city on a normal server you stop producting troops in your first city and build it in your second city, the 15 cropper, instead. That’s why you shouldn’t research anything in your first city apart from scouts, since you’ll have to do it all over again in your second one anyways. A 6444 can easily support a pretty big army on speed, so it’s more up to you there. If you play on speed and don’t use gold, you can chose a 6444 if you wish, but at least city number 4 or 5 has to be a 15 cropper.

Village number 2
When you’ve got village number two it’s time for you to start upgrading your resource fields. Don’t let your army production stop while doing this though, the army will still be by far your largest income of resources, but getting some resource fields built up now is important too. The less active you are the more important the resource fields are as they keep producing even when you sleep. Resource fields are more important on the speed server as the production there are 3 times the one you get on a normal server while travel times are only twice as fast. On a normal server raiding is more important and your own production is less important. If you use gold, start with upgrading crop to 5, then clay and wood to 4, and then iron to 4. After this keeping them at the same level is the way to go, apart from running one of each to 10 when you got them all at 7 to get the bonus building. If you don’t use gold you have to look at what resource you need the most and upgrade in relation to that, don’t let the resource fields of the same type get more than one level apart though.

At the same time as you upgrade resource fields you should go for paladins when you need them. This is something you have to evaluate yourself, but the more treaths you have closer to you the quicker you should go for them. I prefer getting paladins before starting to build axes, and if I’m in a real easy area I’ll wait till I have close to 500 clubs. I usually don’t start building axes untill I have at least 600 clubs and about 100 paladins, but it’s the same rule for this, if you have many threaths close to you, you should get them faster. It’s important that you try to get your 21×21 under control now, and you have to use the means necessary. If you start facing too much enemy cavallery you have to start getting the defensive spears too, but I’ve hardly ever done that this early myself. You can’t keep running parties and getting more cities if you can’t defend them. As a teuton being the dominant player and keeping your neighbourhood under control is very important. You don’t want those romans and gauls getting cavallery, and you don’t want other teutons raiding your farms either.

paladinOnwards
On a speed server what you need to do is to keep building your armies as well as having parties going 24/7 in all of your cities. As soon as you get enough culture you’ll build a new city. You should chose a 15 cropper as your capital and build a lot of support city around that one. In one of the cities beside it you’ll have your main army with barracks and stables producing troops 24/7. When you get 15 cities or so around it, you’ll need great barracks and great stables there as well. At this point you’ll also get chiefs and start conquering cities instead of building them. Eventually you also start building defense in cities you don’t need for offense and work towards end game.

On a normal server you’ll do the same thing, but the parties are less important, as you won’t have enough production to keep them running in all your cities. Here you’ll get most of your culture from buildings. Having a high level embassy in all your cities is real nice for this. The embassy trick is usefull in speed servers too. I like having the capital as my army base in normal servers, as I can’t really support 24/7 production in great barracks and stables on this type of servers unless I have like 40 cities or so. If my army gets destroyed somehow I might put up great barracks and stables in one of the support cities to get it back quick if I have enough production.

I’m gonna end this guide here, as things are too complex now to really take it into this guide. I might write another guide later about end game and managing a huge amount of cities, time will show. Feel free to leave some feedback.

  5. Well isn’t it better to start off as everyone else on the first day and the first hour of speed server and then to go crop all the way up for maces wich will farm the rest of resourses when the noob protection will pass. Takes usually 24 hours at the first day. Plus you got bigger area for yourself and will keep your opponents down in early phase if you play well. (24 hours, the first 24 hour protection period.) By the time protection runs out you will have about 5 maces – wich are enough to expand your resourses + army. On the 10th day you’ll probably have the biggest village in 15×15 and bigest income (if you raid very often). But my point is that to opress your opponent in early game is of higher importans since you make lesser profit but will show it is better in longway terms. Considering that you mustn’t sleep for first 5 days ofcourse :)

  9. Hi!

Thanks for the guide, it will come in handy on the next speed server in my country :) Till now I’ve played Romans, but I’m guessing I should give Teutons a try now. Seeing that all my previous neighbors when speed started were Teutons and were giving me hard time the first week..

Now all I need for the new speed is a good dual from the opposite side of the world to keep the account active 24 hours a day :)

  13. @eejit

No, if you start one day late on speed or three days late on normal it means most people around you will:
    a) be out of protection
    b) have a low population/troop count
Also, because everyone is in protection the first few days it means that they HAVE to build resource fields if they want to grow. Naturally, resource fields and no army is great for you.

  16. this guide really works, thank you so much, i played in normal server, this is the 4th day and the daily income from raiding with tons of clubbies are extraordinary, i love the 10 club – 1 scout build.. very very very effective

i’m currently going for level 10 residence, hopefully in 3 days i’ll be able to build my second city

    thank you so much

    I was wondering..
if you farm everyone around you right from the start of the server, won’t that just make you get several enemies to unite against you? =P

    3 Feb 09 at 1:43 am

  19. Sure, but if you’re efficient enough and very active they won’t really be that much of a match. The idea is to attack them very frequently both to kill the troops they build and take the resources to keep building more of yours.

should we use the NPC merchant?

  23. Are you going to make a defensive guide too to go with the offensive guides?

    Dude

    6 Feb 09 at 2:08 pm

  24. Going defensive with teutons is generally not a good idea, only thing would be if your neighbours keep raiding you with horses, then you’d need to get up some spears fairly quickly. Further into the game there are several ways to play though.

    Iwind

    6 Feb 09 at 4:53 pm

  25. I prefer to go the economy route even with teutons, cause I like to get up the marketplace so that I can use the NPC to change resources to make as many clubs as possible. You only need the buildings you get from following the quest, and maybe some extra levels on the barracks if you have extra resources.

    Iwind

    6 Feb 09 at 4:55 pm

  26. I like this! it’s great and has helped a lot! the only thing I slightly disagree with is the timing of getting scouts and when to branch out to farming more towns. If you wait until you have 50 clubs to start raiding other towns, you will have depleted your original farms’ resources and many of your raids will come back empty. What I’ve been doing is i raid the same one until i have 10 clubs, then i send 5 to my original one and 5 to a low pop inactive. that way none of my troops will die and I will have a much better chance of bringing back as many resources as possible. Also, if you wait until you have 100 clubs to get scouts, you will also get many empty raids. I say you get scouts at around 50 because it’s relatively cheap and you have the resources to get it done quickly (did it all in a few hours). Also, it will help you grow more quickly from there on out because you’ll know where all the resources are…

over all though, an amazing guide. thanks!

    9 Feb 09 at 3:23 am

  27. Oh, I totally agree that you shouldn’t wait till you have 50 clubs to start attacking more farms, think maybe you thought I meant something else. I suggested waiting with attacking other farming players, untill you have about 50 clubs. Other farming players being other teautons that might have a large club army, and in attacking them you’ll loose a portion of your own club army.

When it comes to scounts I suppose it’s a matter of taste after all. I usually farm with with only 3-4 clubs on each farm, and as soon as one is empty I let it wait and move to the next. With 50 clubs I’ll have about 15 attacks out on 15 different farms all the time. What I need the scouts for is to spy on other teutons as well as big players to find out how large defense and and how much resources they have.

    Iwind

    9 Feb 09 at 2:35 pm

  28. so which one is better , make a barrack or the market first?

    Savehelfer

    9 Feb 09 at 6:31 pm

  29. If you use gold you can build the market first but you could wait until your 5 clubs are farming and build the market with the resources they collect.

    Tottenen

    10 Feb 09 at 11:28 am

  30. Yeah, if you don’t mind using gold build the market first, haven’t run the exact numbers but I’ve tried both ways and it’s not that close even, so build the market.

  31. Dude, I have this problem…
I am a teuton playing on a normal server.
    And I have a second village now… a crop 15.
In my first city I already have paladins, axes, spears, clubs and spys and a hero…
In my second city, i was thinking I could make it the capital, but I would make it more like a market city, with bonus production buildings and stuff, since resource fields have very tiny production per hour…
Is it bad idea if I produce troops in my first city and use the 15 cropper only for base (even if I dont train much soldiers there)?

  32. Thanks for a good guide! In the beginning, if you don’t play with gold, I find it very usefull to upgrade your cranny to lvl 10 since it’s very hard to spend all resources without gold when you have an incoming. A few levels on the marketplace is pretty much essential aswell.

  39. You can cancle attack by going to rally point and click on the X when the attack is going out. But you can only do after a short period of time. Also, im a pro player, and i use this guide. Except i start after first hour of server, and do quests. I keep all tiles on 2 and some crops on 2, this should be done before beginners protectino is out. Then i build troops till my neihbours run out of Beginners protection, and raid. And od what you do in guide. I never tohught of that 20 second then cancel. Kinda scary if you do it a bit early… Yeah, i am also looking for some pro players to dual with me, any up for it??

Probably a bad idea to have a 15 crop and not use it for troops when ur old city starves.
I think u should definetly take advantage that u ahve 15 crop fields and make a huge army.

  46. Hello ;) .
    Thanks for the Guide.
I followed it on a Speed server.

I WAS TOP 30 FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE :D !

I ruled my neighborhood so hard, the best one in 13×13 had like 72 pop when I had almost 200, and I had a lot of troops while noone else had troops :P .

But I got a new dual, and he made me get banned.
He wrote something to our farm because our farm was very mad.
So the Mod took like 75% of our pop, and all our troops.
    Hard mods, eh ;/?

  47. It doesn’t matter if you build troops in 15c or not. 4446 can easily support an army. You just need to keep raiding and bringing home crop.

    Guide is good.

But settling a CLOSE 15c is necessary, the closest you can get with the best bonuses. 75% and higher if possible.

I just got a 125% that’s 10 squares away from my first. Also, you should think about whether you will NPC or not, if you do, then you can NPC the crop you get in your 15c and build it up faster.

Plits. You shouldn’t be going for level 20 residence, it costs wayyy too much especially early on, it’s something you shoul dbe working on over the course of the server. Starting off with a palace in you’re first village, you can get it to lvl 15 and get 2 villages alot easier than going for residence, then you can take it down and build up a residence for CP.

Plits if you’re getting attacked, build defensive units and keep them away from the action, when you have enough to kill off his army, bring them back and take him out and farm him like crazy. Make him pay for attacking you.

  49. You actuually aren’t supposed to build troops in your 15c. It is supposed to be your Capital and you can’t build a great barracks or great stable in your capital. You should have another city right next to your 15c and then build all your troops there and send them to your 15c.

And jonnnny, a 6c cannot support a real army. If you are trying to build a hammer, your should have at least 5000 troops (with at least 65 attack) If your best infantry is leess than that(teuts), then build more. You also have to build cavalry and they take up alot of whea, especially the roman’s E.C. which they have to build so they can compete with the other tribe’s army.

Also, about the guide, you shouldn’t be doing the quests if you are a teut. You start about 4 or 5 days late then go MB -> level 3, Rally point -> level 1, barracks -> level 1, then you get 3 maces (810 wood so you may have to wait a little while. So if you want, just send 2 but against people with <(less than) 9 pop because they won’t have any troops of even a rat. After that, just build more and more maces until you can clean out everyone in your 13×13. While you are building your maces, you can get a couple wood fields up and a clay pit to level 1. You may also want to have a few wheat fields up as well.

  50. Hi! Dude, I relaly like this “tutorial”! It is well made!

But… in the begingin u said:

    “Get the rewards
If you play on a server where there is a quest reward system I suggest following that untill you’re at the last part of it.”

    And that u gained 6000 recourses. Well…
    u gain 8000 to beging with :P

and to do all the quests except the last on it will cost u
    11000 recourses!

Aint it better to build barack the first thing u do and start raiding??

  52. Hey this guide is very useful but im at the stage with 50 troops and I was planning on attacking a player with an army but whenever I build troops he builds the same amount and in some cases more (85 troops vs 50) I can attack him but it won’t happen without a great lose on my part.

I am a teuton and so is he.

    Thanks

  53. Do not totally agree. Farms get deleted. Occasonaly you miscaculate and your troops come back an hour too early and get killed, so after you have enough to be constantly farming, put the recources into recouce feilds.

  56. I don’t know Jordan,
But I want to tell that my population is 62 and I have about 145 troops. My crops production is -109. I think you should just it be like that and farm other village to get it.

  57. @Jordan :
I guess , you should be upgrading your crop fields if you stay away for long hours , else it will eventually cause death of your troops .
If you were an active raider , it would have been a different issue

  58. “As you work your way towards 200 clubs I suggest starting the infrastructure for your first PARTY if you play on a speed server. You only need one PARTY on a speed server to get your second village, and if things work out well you should be able to have this PARTY around day 3″

    what that party mean?

  61. how you no what tribe other players are?

    name here

    27 Oct 09 at 2:09 am

  62. guys you are idiotic.
@name here- when you click on there village/profile, it will show what tribe they are in.

@no name- a party is something you throw for more CP. You need cp to conquer another village.

@will- if you attack him with 50 clubbies you will DEMOLISH all of his troops. clubbies are attack based, so he wouldn’t stand a chance.

@hamster- most ppl wont be outa bp yet. you’d probably send 1hr+ raids to and fro. but it is still worth it.

  64. Just to add to this, keep your crop near -75 or -100 in the early game, as people will not always have all the crop you need for -300.

  65. i would love to know about the exact start game procedures
yet the best combinations for raiding on normal servers is
upgrade 2 crop tiles to lvl 2
    build a wood tile
    build a clay tile
    build a iron tile

upgrade main building to lvl 3

    guild rally and barrack

and get clubs ready before anyone else …
this i do when i join 3 days late in a week or server start

correct me guys if you find anything wrong and do give me tips if there are any proper tactics on it

  67. I can’t research scout…

You have negative crop and therefore will never reach the
    required resources.

What do folks do when they get here?
